Six week certificate course for Foot Care Assistants
Purpose of course:
To educate and train foot care assistants for prevention of leg amputation and quality management of Foot Ulcers.
Brief description of course:
The course will enable the participants to develop the following competencies:
- Screening and examination of the diabetic foot
- cutting and filing nails
- removing simple callus
- assessing footwear
- delivering education on footwear
- foot care and hygiene
- giving general advice to people with diabetes
- understanding implications of neuropathy.
Frequency of course:
Six Weeks
Target participants and course requirements:
- All those, who have passed their Matriculation.
- Age: Between 20 -45 years
- At least two years of prior experience as a paramedic / dresser in hospital setup or clinic.
Mode of delivery:
- Workshop/seminar (face-to-face)
- Clinical experience
Course outline with timelines:
Section
A- Theory: Anatomy. Foot Disorders. Nail conditions. Physical Examination &management.
B- Practical: Handling &sterilization of instruments. Clinical assessment. Assisting Physician in developing a treatment plan and its implementation. Interaction with other healthcare professionals.
Objective
Developing knowledge to recognize &evaluate Foot conditions.
Develop skill to manage foot condition surgically with aseptic technique.
